What Is the Diffence Between a Complex Ovarian Cyst and Functional Ovarian Cyst?

My doctor just told me I had a 4cm complex ovarian cyst. She said I will most likely have to have it removed pending another internal ulrasound.

a functional cyst has only fluid in it, they come and go with your menstrual cycle and are completely normal. complex cysts have solid and fluid components in it and can be many different things. occasionaly, they will go away on their own also because they may be a normal cyst that just had some bleeding into it – has some clots inside so it looks complex – that is why the second ultrasound to see if it goes away on its own before going to surgery. if it does not go away, yes it should be removed

not exctly sure i think complex is more of a problem luckily i was on birth contol pills with mine and after about 2 months it shrank and turned into a simple cyst and kind of got better on it’s own if you are sceduled for another internal ultrasound the doctor could probably explain the difference better.
