You can expect that they will do an internal exam to see if there is a palpable cyst or an ectopic pregnancy. If the exam indicates either one of those things, they will do an ultrasound to determine what is going on. If it is a cyst, depending on how big it is, they will either treat it medically (with pills) or they will discuss removing it if there is a risk that it might twist the ovary and cause bigger problems or they may just have you ride it out for a few months to see if it ruptures on its own. (cysts rupture on your ovaries every month-that is how the egg is released) but big ones that don’t pop are a problem.
If it is ectopic, you will be in the operating room before the day is out.
The IUD may or may not need to be removed depending on what they find. Good Luck.
