Treatment Options for Large Ovarian Cyst?
I’ve been having pain in my rt side for about 6 mos & my periods have been coming every 16 days. I finally went to see the midwife who delivered my last child for an annual exam. She felt the outside of my abdomen and said she could feel a mass. She did the internal exam & said there was def a mass, about the size of a grapefruit. I went the next day for an ultrasound and it showed a very large ovarian cyst, my midwife will probaby not get the results until Monday or Wednesday, and waiting to find out what I may need is driving me crazy.
I have been suffering from these since I was 19. I had a small one explode when I was 18 and another small one explode when I was 21, I was then placed on birth control.I stayed on it till I was 28 With a cyst this size, are there any medications that will reduce it’s size to make surgery unnecessary? With me having had 2 smaller cysts explode already, does that make this larger one likely to explode? Are there an alternative treatments?
For a cyst that is that large, they will probably decide that it will require surgery, especially with your past history with cysts that explode. Besides hormonal treatment and surgery, there really are no other option.
do you ever go to a hospital?=the 2 smaller ones exploded yes=apparently this one hasn,t=with it bothering you so much ,you might have to have it removed and the only way i know that it is done is surgically =good luck
I had a cyst the size of a jumbo canteloupe back in 1999. I never had any pain with it (I have a retardedly high pain tolerance), but did lose my period for about 10 months. I went to the hospital in pain one morning (after months, maybe yrs of nothing) and was told that it needed to be removed via laproscopic the next morning (I cried like a baby, this was my 1st surgery, I’ve never even broke a bone b4). I don’t think there is any other alternative in ur situation, it needs to be done. Not sure if u were warned about this, but if this cyst twists around ur ovary, u will have to have ur ovary removed as well. Please try to stay away from any activities that can cause it to twist (running, dancing etc.). Feel free to email me if u want any info on the surgery itself, or the pain/healing afterwards. Good Luck! Everything will be fine!
