Can Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome Cause Ovarian Cancer?

August 15th, 2011 2 comments

I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome) and I’m scared that it will cause ovarian cancer. I haven’t got my periods this month, and I’m not pregnant (I’ve had several tests done to confirm that). And if I stop getting my periods, is that a symptom of ovarian cancer, or is it just when I bleed when I’m not supposed to?

All the Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer?! Could It Be?

August 12th, 2011 1 comment

Went to the ER Monday, and doctor says my symptoms could be due to ovarian cancer, but that I have to see a gyno to find out. My periods have been unusually heavy for a few years and for the last 9 weeks, I have been having persistent gas(that gets worse daily), nausea, indigestion, changes in bladder habits, including frequency and occasionally burning, changes in bowel habits, including now being constipated all the time and sides hurt when trying to go, loss of appetite, feeling full quickly, constantly tired, VERY abnormal menstrual cycles and low back pain. For the last 4 weeks, I have been experiencing swelling in my stomach (it has gained 4 inches in 3 weeks, but I have gained no weight) severe pelvic pain, shortness of breath, horrible pain in my lower (left) abdomen, some occasional pain in my legs. I don’t have any of the risk factor though. I am not menopausal, I have had children, I have no history of cancer, I am not over 55 and I am pretty sure there is no history of ovarian cancer in my family.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Ultrasound Diagnostics?

July 31st, 2011 1 comment

My periods have been delayed twice in the last 9 months. The first time it happened, my doctor gave me an ultrasound and concluded that my ovaries were polycystic. The second time it happened 6 months later, she said that it was because I was polycystic (no ultrasound).

3 months later, my husband and I decided we would like to try and conceive. Since I had PCOS, we had a work-up with my doctor to aid fertility, She had me take Clomiphene Citrate and again gave me an ultrasound which once again confirmed that I had PCOS. Around the time when I was about to ovulate, I had an ultrasound again but this time from another doctor she referred and he said that he saw no indication of PCOS and that my ovaries were normal.

My question is, could I have been cured of PCOS in a span of just a few weeks? Does that happen? I am asking because I want to be sure that I am getting the best medical care for my baby-to-be :) Thanks.

Women Versus Men?

July 23rd, 2011 8 comments

I have been thinking and us women have the short end of the stick… here is why

Women-
Periods
Child Birth
Dealing with dead beat dads who don’t pay child support/don’t take care of their kids
Cervical Cancer(at very young ages, very hard to cure)
Ovarian Cancer(at very young ages, very hard to cure)
Uterine Cancer
Breast Cancer(no need to say anything here)
menopause
HPV
PID
Heart Disease(#1 killer in women)

Men
Prostate cancer(by time they have to worry about this they are so old it doesn’t matter)
Colon cancer(which is VERY curable if caught early on)
and OH MY GOD…………..IF THEY KNOCK UP A CHICK THEY "HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF IT" OR ATLEAST PAY CHILD SUPPORT…..THAT IS NOT FAIR HUH? JUST BECAUSE I MADE THAT BABY SHOULDN’T MEAN I NEED TO TAKE CARE OF IT……..

ALSO, MEN AVOID TRYING TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR KIDS LIKE THE POOR KID IS CANCER. I READ A QUESTION ON HERE WHERE A GUY ASKED "HOW CAN I GET MY CHILD SUPPORT LOWERED". EXCUSE ME?
Oh yeah I did forget Yeat Infections..sorry :)
Oh yeah I did forget Yeat Infections..sorry :)
Actually I did not get left buy a man. Why does it always have to be the womens responsibility for birth control? People get on women more about birth control than men.

Question for Doctors/Women…??? Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome? Please Help!?

Okay: I am 16 years old and have been getting my period for 5 and a half years (since 6th grade). For the first 3-4 years of getting my period: I had a very normal teenage menstural cycle. I would get my period about every 32-34 days, sometimes a week earlier and IT would last 5-6 days and it would be pretty heavy and I would get lots of cramps. However about two years ago I started to get pretty bad acne (which will not go away even with doctor prescibed medication. I have tried everything!). I also have now upper lip hair, which very well could be in my genes, but I dont think that has anything to do with it. So I have to get my upper lip waxed like every other week just to keep it away! But most weird of all, my periods became VERY REGULAR but they only last 2 days, 3 at the most! I used tampons for a while, but after all this started happening it hurt to use tampons as I wasnt bleeding much. I mean I could use one always pad for the entire period if I wanted and it would barely be full. I don’t get cramps, and I get my period almost exactly every 28-30 days. But its just off. ITs been getting more light over the last year. I am not obese, I am only about 10 lbs over weight but I am very tall (5’8”) and I am very physically active (about 6 hours a day), and I have a healthy stable diet. So This has to be a Biological/Physical thing. I plan on talking to my doctor when I go for my 11th grade physical, but I really am self conscious and I don’t want to go to a gynecologist and get checked down there! I don’t smoke or drink or do drugs. I am not sexually active and don’t plan on being any time soon. I don’t use birth control. So Really I have a very normal average lifestyle but these periods worry me and the physical things like the acne, weight gain, and facial hair worry me as well.
Could this possibly be POS? I am not looking for a diagnosis just for some feedback of some related stories. I know that POS affects alot of teenagers and young women so that is why I question.
If this is happening, do you know if there is a cure or a hormone medication that can help? I drink spearmint tea 1-2 times a day which I know can help with acne and facial hair growth as it prevents the distribution of androgens, but it has not helped!
So please HELP!
Thanks!
