Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Problem…?
well, ive been diagnosed with pcos and ovarian cyst 3months ago… so i took the prescribed medicines by my OB to induce mens and it worked. after i had my menstruation, she told me to take metformin and the so called "combination pills". she advised me to do it for 3-6months.
now here’s the thing. i only took the meds for a month. and now i haven’t gotten my menstruation again. does that mean i have to start over with my medication? and how long does it really take to cure pcos?
ok wow ur Dr hasnt told you enough have they?!
i was diagnosed with PCOS 7 years ago and i have never had regular periods. the only way to make them regular is to use the pill(many different types and brands) .
PCOS is not curable, sometimes it just goes away on its own but from what i have read and been told its usually only the case when the patient was overweight or obese when diagnosed and they lost enough weight to be a healthy BMI(between21 and 24 i think it is) then the PCOS goes away on it own.
i have taken metformin, gone on the medications and havent seen any difference> my gyno has suggested i go off everything and just see how it goes for a few months because there was no change.
if your period was never regular before the meds it might never be regular without the meds, just annoying really.
also women with PCOS have a lowered chance of pregancy some are completely sterile and others like me can only conceive with the aid of medication your gyno will give you on request. talk to your doctor about your options and read up on it.
i have been told that cutting out complex carbs can help but i cant stick to it so cant tell u if it helps.
good luck
I also have pcos. There is no cure for this only treatment. You should take the metformin because pcos can also be a precursor to Type 2 Diabetes. The Metformin (Diabetic med) is also used to regulate your menses. So, let your doctor know that you are no longer having your cycle. The thing with pcos is, if you are still in childbearing ages, conception will have to most likely be assisted. I chose not to take the meds to assist with pregnancy (all of my kids are adopted), but it is very important to take the meds.
