Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?
Hello there. I’m 20 now. Last year, went to a gynaecologist to do a checkup on why my period is not regular. So the doctor said that I’m having this syndrome after doing a thorough examination. Besides that I’m also having these symptoms:
*over weight
*excessive hair all over the body (thick ones)
*irregular period
The doctor told me that it’s caused by excessive male hormones in my body. The only suggestion that the doctor gave me is that to lose weight. He won’t give any medication because he was afraid that it will increase my weight even more. But I can’t lose any weight, it’s just too stubborn. So I was thinking of using spironolactone to cure my unbalance hormone. I’ve read it somewhere and it seems to cure it a little bit. But I’m quite skeptical about it. Please do give me some opinion on this. Thank you.
I was diagnosed with PCOS 13 years ago and have been dealing with it ever since. First of all, your gynecologist can’t diagnose you or treat you for PCOS (some of them do, but most aren’t qualified). You need to see an endocrinologist and they will work with you to develop a management plan. If it’s your insulin that is causing the difficulty losing weight, they’ll more than likely put you on Metformin (brand name is Glucophage) which is an oral medication for people with insulin sensitivity or type 2 diabetes. This medication alone helped me to lose 80 pounds. Spironalactone doesn’t completely correct the hormonal imbalance, but it does help some. Technically, it’s listed as a diuretic, but it has something to do with your potassium levels and something else (I can’t remember exactly at this moment–I haven’t been on it for awhile because I’m trying to get pregnant). Your doctor is right in saying that weight loss will help. Often losing as little as 5% of your body weight can jump start your ovulation (and in turn, your period). Let me know if you have any other questions! There are a lot of great books and websites about PCOS!

I would DEFINITELY avoid using that product. Do not do anything your doctor says not to do. The reason your hormones are the way they are is because of your weight dear. There IS a weight loss product out there that can help you its just finding the right one and exercising. If you ever think you want children you should do this because pcos severely hinders fertility. Talk to your doctor more and he can help you find a healthy diet plan. Also if you start using other products against your doctors advice it could cause you to put on massive weight hun and thats just not healthy. Please try and find a healthy weight loss program
Hello! I have also been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome recently and has the same symptoms too. First off, I wouldn’t try to self-medicate because that could exacerbate or worsen your condition. What I would suggest is for you to get a second opinion on this. Consult another gynecologist. It would really help you lose weight faster if you will be allowed to take Metformin. Women with PCOS actually have a harder time losing the excess weight than normal women. Also, I would recommend becoming more active and by watching what you eat. Bear in mind that PCOS is not a death sentence. You CAN do something about it. I wish you all the best! Message me if you need more info okay?
