Ovarian Cancer Without Medical Insurance!!! Please What Can Be Done?

My cousin told me yesterday on her 30th Birthday that she has Ovarian cancer. She doesn’t have Medical Insurance anymore. She has one 16 month old and a 4 year old. She tried for Medi-cal and has been denied. She and her husband went to plan a funeral, just incase. What can be done? Where can she get help for Cancer treatment? She was in stage one when she found out a few months ago. Once her insurance was over she couldn’t find out anything else.

Hi, First off I am so sorry about your cousins diagnosis, but be thankful that its at stage one, bc that means it was caught early! I have been battling stage 4 ovarian cancer for three years now, so I know what your all going through. Although its hard, it is good that her and her husband went ahead and did a will and funeral arrangements…I did that also so my fiance/family wouldn’t have to be stuck with that just in case. And no it doesnt mean giving up, its just a smart thing to do! She really should contact her oncologist, and see if they do payment plans. Most places do, but it still will be crazy expensive. I get financial help for all of my bills including general living expenses, co-pays, the cost of treatment etc. There are so many places she can go to get financial medical help! I go through Cancer Care. They even send you a free booklet with tons of different places where you can get financial help if you cant through them. Also the American Cancer Society will have many places in your area that give financial help and cancer centers in your area that will help with treatments, etc. if she’s being rejected from her normal oncologist. I dont know where your located so I can’t really tell you good oncologist specialists, but if you would like more information please dont hesitate to email me. The American Cancer Society would be a great place to start. They have helped me so much! And also Cancer Care. Please email me if you would like anymore information. I hope this helps.

She should make an appointment with an oncologist, get the treatment that is needed, and work out a payment plan afterward. Stage 1 ovarian cancer is very easy to treat, and a whole lot less expensive than treating any later stage.

Stage one? hummmm.. Funeral plans???…something is not adding up right.
    And
If she has kids, she WILL qualify for Medicaid even if it is a share of cost medicaid which is the same thing as medicaid.
She is not telling the entire truth here somewhere.

She needs to immediately make an appointment with her gynocologist and an oncologist and work out a payment plan and treatment protocol given her circumstances. Doctors work with people without insurance all the time. Instead of planning a funeral, she needs to find a way to stay alive for her children.

she should qualify for medi-cal. you should try a county facility, they usually offer services for low income families

She needs to go to the doctor. She will find a way. Tell her to keep a positive attitude. Be there for her. There should be no reason why her insurance was denied. I will be praying for her. Why did they plan a funeral? She could have used that money toward her treatment. I am not sure what else to do. But SUPPORT her. Encourage her.

There are many options to consider, not just conventional treatment, which usually just sickens the person further. See these links for more info, hope this helps.
