    Hi There,
My mother was also diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in her late 40′s. My mother & I have the same OBGYN, so my doctor is VERY cautious when it comes to my healthcare. You should be being checked for this at least once a year, through a pap smear (though that doesn’t check the ovaries it can identify abnormal cells in your cervix) and a ca-125 blood test which would watch your tumor markers. Does your doctor know your mother’s history? Unfortunately for us- our risks are much higher for developing ovarian cancer because of our mother’s having it. As far as whether or not you should have a hysterectomy when your done having children, I think only you , your husband and doctor can make that decision. If your not having any issues or problems, and your being checked regularly, its not always the best idea to have your female organs removed because that sometimes only causes more issues. And one point to remember, just because you don’t have the organs doesn’t mean you can’t get the cancer. My mother had a complete hysterectomy, and is watched closely for it, almost 5 years later. Hope this helps you out a little. :)
