is it really as simple as cutting out sugars? are there any particular food groups aside from protein which you can recommend.
Hello,
This is a fair question. Yes, reducing sugar certainly helps to reduce glucose and insulin levels which will directly reduce insulin resistance, the cause of PCOS, and reduce risk factors for diabetes and heart disease. However, sugar or glucose not only comes from sweets, it is what carbohydrates are made of. Eating less processed and refines foods, such as breads, pasta, sweets, etc., will slow down the digestion of carbohydrates and therefore glucose into the bloodstream.
However, lowering overall carbohydrate intake and focusing on a balance of protein, healthy fats, and foods high in fiber (which will contain some carbohydrates) is more optimal for many people with insulin resistance disorders.
This approach will help reduce insulin resistance and can help with the hormone imbalance and weight loss. However, often in addition to nutrition and exercise changes, it is important to implement a comprehensive approach to address PCOS and this includes nutraceuticals (vitamins, minerals, herbs) that will support healing of insulin resistance, reduce symptoms and reduce risk factors that are associated with long term insulin resistance (diabetes, heart disease).

than you – what sort of herbs and minerals would you recommend? what do you see typically deficient in PCOS sufferers. Many thanks, Moley
Dear Moley,
It not that women with PCOS are deficient in any one particular nutrient. We are not seeing clinical signs of deficiency. We see that because of various factors their bodies do not work properly and this leads to elevated insulin, reproductive hormone imbalances, and the many symptoms that are a result of these changes.
So, essentially it is important to address the cause of PCOS, insulin resistance and nutrients herbs help to do this along with exercise & nutrition changes.
I recommend you check out the Insulite PCOS System, as this is a very comprehensive approach to address PCOS. A link to the PCOS website is included in the video. Unfortunately YouTube does not allow me to include URLs in responses.
Also, on the PCOS website you can find a detailed list of the vitamins, minerals and herbs used to support reversing insulin resistance and reducing symptoms of PCOS. Look for a pink button that says “How the System Works for You”.
I hope that this answers your questions. Thanks again for asking.

i found out that I had PCOS when I was only 18. You have to take care of yourself for the rest of your life. If you slip off for a few weeks or months, your pcos will return. So, it is important to educate yourself about it and take your medication, eat right and take right alternative medication. But please do not forget that it is forever. It is like diabetes and there is no real cure out there but to control your disease.
okay. So I did not mean to sound discouraging. I know from experience that women with pcos, who take care of themselves are doing far better than average people. most people do not care much for their health.
so in a way this syndrome can be a blessing.
Estrogen Dominant…that is why women become insulin resistant.Biodentical Hormones can correct this. Usually it is caused by foods, products etc that contribute to the overall load of estrogen in the body. Progesterone counter balances estrogen. But when it is insufficient, estrogen takes over.
The thyroid kicks back and now you are constipated. Its all one big cycle. Also, young girls seem to burn the candle at both ends and throw the whole cycle off. From 10 pm to 1 am, your body sets your hormone structure to release in the early morning hours. So when you dont sleep properly or eat healthy, nutricious and hormone free foods, then we get off balance.
Menopause or Ovulation Failure carry the same traits because of the drop in Progesterone and Estrogen. Just balance your hormones the natural way first and if that doesnt work then go see a Dr that specializes in Bioidentical Hormone Therapy.
hi..i has a ques…does diabetes has anything to do wit pcos???????? plz reply me as soon as possible…
@NoorLyana8 women with pcos are more likely to get diabetes because when you have high insulin levels your body holds on to the sugar you eat. Thats part of the reason some pcos women have weight issuses. My doctor has suggested that i should eat more protein( meat and vegetables) and eat less fruits, bread ( wheat is fine), pasta, and have as little sugar as possible.
