My Mother Has a 5mm Ovarian Tumor. It Is Not Advisable for Her to Have Surgery.?
doctor says there is no other way to determine if it is cancerous or not.
my question is, what could happen if it is benign and left untreated?
of course i know what will happen if it is cancerous. they cannot do a biopsy.
removing it would require major surgery and she was told not to have it. she’s 83 and does not wish to go through it anyway. i am trying to get her to see another doctor.
my question is about benign tumors. i was hoping for some facts. can it burst? can it become infected.
Very sorry to hear about your mother. I believe it is always good to get a second opinion with things of a serious nature and would also want a copy of whatever test was done for Dr. to reach this diagnosis. Take that to the other Dr. after his/her dx. is made. I would also use the information on this test to research about this mass further myself. Make a list of Q’s you need answers for like could it be a cyst? if so what does this mean? and If it bursts what could happen? What could happen if left alone? Is there a medicine that can shrink it? Ask about this blood test and make sure things are explained well enough for you to understand and ask if she should see a specialist who may be better able to explain what is going on with her. Most importantly, pray for healing, (it worked when I had a lung mass) and know that I will be praying for her also.
Why is this a question?
If it is Cancer she will die……
She must know and you should want it.
i would get a second opinion, and have a biopsy done.
Hi there, 5mm is pretty small unless you mean 5cm, mm is millimeter. It’s not large and usually they don’t do surgery on that small. Has she had a ca125 test? That’s a blood test marker for ovarian cancer. She needs to have that done. There are other options too like medicine to shrink it. I have a 10.1 ovarian cystic mass/tumor. I’m on lupron and it’s shrunk down to 5.0 right now and on the way down more. There are other options, the first one being if she hasn’t had the blood test, find a new dr pronto.
If the tumor is left untreated it can grow and cause trouble, so they have to keep an eye on it to see if it grows but make sure she gets the ca125 test.
