She first was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 2 years ago and was successful with surgery and treatment. Now its 4th stage liver and a small spot on the abdomen. How should I prepare myself and my family? Thanks Concern Daughter
Very sorry to read and say stage 4 liver cancer is the terminal stage.
All treatment options(Very limited) are just palliative and prognosis is poor.
You and your family must develop mental strength to face inevitable outcome.
In such cases Hospice care is highly recommended.
Stage IV liver cancer is the one that has spread to different organs of the body. The cancer may have spread to the lungs or the bones. The size of the tumor can vary and may have also spread to the blood vessels and/or lymph nodes near the liver.
Stage 4 liver cancer survival rates indicate the number of people alive for a certain time period after diagnosis of cancer. People who survive stage 4 liver cancer for a period of 5 years are taken into consideration for compiling the statistics. These people are those who have few or no symptoms of cancer and are undergoing treatment. Stage 4 liver cancer survival rates are very useful in determining the treatment that can be used for curing this disease. The survival rates for stage 4 liver cancer are found to be very low. Statistics have shown only 7% as the stage 4 liver cancer survival rates for a 5 year period. Those whose cancer is surgically removed show a survival rate of about 75% after 1 year, 50% after 3 years and 30% after 5 years. Metastatic liver cancer life expectancy is 0%, that is, no survivors, even if one undergoes liver transplantation.
you should be prepared because it is most likely that the survival rate of this stage of cancer is low.. but sometimes miracles do happen, so in some case they got cured.
You live like you would any other day but with extra love and care. You let her know that your sorry for any problems you may have put her through, that she was a great mother and that if she is tired and she wants to go she can go in peace. But if you want to fight start submitting your moms name for prayer to a church for healing and maybe that will buy her time on earth. God does listen to requests. Believe me. Make sure that she knows who Jesus is and that she accepts him because thats whose shes going to meet if she passes. Ohter than that alot of love, compassion, and never force a cancer patient to stay up or awake or receive a bunch of family members. God Bless..
