Is a Ruptured Ovarian Cyst Supposed to Be Followed by Midcycle Bleeding (4 Days and Counting)?

40 year old female is scheduled for a f/up for ruptured ovarian cyst (two weeks ago), in that she’s older than most to have gotten one. Not started menopause. Why would she start bleeding mid cycle. More than spotting or a light period, but less than a normal one.

One of the tests is to rule out ovarian cancer. Is the bleeding of concern?

It could be a number of things, if she’s on birth control, she could’ve skipped a pill or two. It’s not uncommon to bleed in the middle of a pack sometimes. If she’s not, it could just be stress. I don’t think it’s of any concern unless she is bleeding extremely heavy and having to change pads or super plus tampons every 1 – 2 hours. THATS cause for concern and you’d need to go to the ER right away…you can call your dr. office and leave a message for the nurse to be sure; but I think she’s okay.
