Has Anyone Had Surgery for Ovarian Cyst Removal?

I was recently diagnosed with an ovarian cyst, about the size of a large peach. I will need to have it removed and I’m very nervous. How painful is the procedure? How long does it take to recover? Any advice you could give would be helpful.

I had the surgery 2 summers ago- mine was larger than a grapefruit so they had to do a full incision- from belly button almost all the way down and remove the cyst, ovary and tube.
It was horrific for me (sorry, but it was) I was in the hospital for 11 days with infections and severe pain.
But you get through it…we’re tough like that.
My advice, don’t strain yourself too soon after surgery and have someone there with you to help you at all times- even in the hospital. The smallest things are going to be very hard for you to do (like picking up a pen you dropped) and believe me, you’ll appreciate the support and a shoulder to cry on.
I hope your experience is much easier than mine. Good luck.

I had a Laproscopic removal of a cyst. The Dr went in thru my belly button and drained the cyst. It really wasn’t that bad and there wasn’t a long recovery time. Just a little pain afterwards.

The surgery can be done two different ways- either a regular surgical opening or using scopes. You will have pain 3-4 days after laparoscopic surgery and for 7-10 days after open surgery. You will be totally anesthetized so you won’t feel a thing. I have scrubbed in the OR for this type of surgery before and it is very clearcut so you have nothing to be worried about. You can read all about the procedure and what to expect here.

My best friend did and it took her about 6 weeks to recover. She stayed in the hospital for 3 days after the surgery. But that was only because she got an infection, and her azz is too fast and want to do things she is not suposed to. When you get it done ask your docotor what was inside of them. They found teeth, hair and oil in herz… the doctor said becuse of calcium build ups not babies….lol

I had an ovarian cyst removed around 1984. But the procedures might vary now. Since there is a lot more new medical knowledge on how to do things. It took me about 3-5 weeks to fully recover. But the best knowledge that I can give you is this: PLEASE ASK YOUR DOCTOR! THEY WILL TELL MORE PRECISELY THEN I CAN. BUT DON’T BE NERVOUS! I WOULD GO AHEAD AND HAVE IT DONE. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE HAVING SOME PAIN AT THIS TIME. YOU WILL FEEL MUCH BETTER AFTERWARDS.

MY PRAYERS WILL BE WITH YOU!
