Do "functional" Ovarian Cysts Cause Intense Pain?

I know I have ovarian cysts, Ive been to the doctor and had the ultrasound. He told me that I had several small cysts on my ovaries but it was nothing to worry about. He recomended that I get on birth control to prevent my cycles. But I would rather not have to take a pill every day. BUT.. sometimes the pain is so bad I think I should reconsider. Is it normal for these cysts to hurt this bad? Or should be more worried about it? Just about every month I have a hard time getting out of bed, I cant stand up straight. I just want to lay in a fetal position with a heating pad on my stomach. Its causing problems with my job because they think Im just using it as an excuse. Is this going to cause any problems with pregnancy later on? I went to the doctor 2 or 3 years ago and its been the same ever since.. sometimes its worse than other times.

hunny go on the pill, I have had the same issues since I was 15, last year I was diagnosed with endo. The pain can be extreme! I had a cyst the size of a lemon, and let me tell you it’s just as intense as a cyst the size of a pee. I have been on 6, yes 6 different BC, the ONLY one that works for pain and cysts is Demulen, it’s a very low dose, try it!!! Wish you the best!

I would get a 2nd opinion & talk to alternative health care professional…having cysts on your ovaries is not normal & could be problematic besides just dealing with the pain.
Foods that help ease the discomfort and recurrence include plenty of raw fruits and vegetables (especially dark green leafy veggies), garlic, legumes, whole grains, and other whole foods. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, red meats, eggs, fat, white sugar, carbonated beverages, and processed and refined foods. Stick to a natural diet, and you will do better physically. Avoid smoking~

All cysts are painful, it’s recommended that you stick to the pill, thats the first line of cyst treatment. As for the pain, you can reduce it greatly with home remedies like:

    # Heat: By using a heat pad or hot water bottle you can naturally ease the pain

    # Water: Drinking plenty of water daily helps to reduce ovarian cyst pain and keeps you healthy at the same time

    # Natural Diuretics: Parsley or tomatoes are great for relieving pain, and avoid spicy foods because those can actually make the pain worsen

    # Herbal teas: chamomile, mint and raspberry teas help a lot and as well as reducing pain, they can relax you. Avoid regular tea or coffee because it can result in growth of cysts and eminent rupture

    # Traditional pain relief: things like over the counter drugs, for example ibuprofen, are common when dealing with pain but taking them regularly can lead to other problems.

Here’s this really good site for info on the subject: http://endovariancysts.com/
And I also recommend this e-book (the download link is right at the end) that tells you how to treat cysts in “3 simple steps”, you can get it at

    Hope I helped! :)
